چکیده
Star counts, obtained from a 2 × 2 degree area centered on NGC 6822 have revealed an optical image of this galaxy composed of two components: in addition to the well-known HI disk with its young stellar component, there is a spheroidal stellar structure as extensive as its HI disk but with its major axis at roughly right angles to it which we traced to at least 9 scale lengths. Radial velocities Based on observations obtained at the Italian Telescopio Nazionale Galileo operated on the Island of La Palma by the Fundación Galileo Galilei of the INAF at the Spanish Observatory de Roque de los Muchachos of the Institute de Astrofisica de Canarias. Based on observations obtained with MegaPrime/MegaCam, a joint project of CFHT and CEA/DAPNIA, at the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT) which is operated by the National Research Council (NRC) of Canada, the Institut National des Sciences de l’Univers of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) of France, and the University of Hawaii. Photometric Survey of the Polar Ring Galaxy Ngc 6822
We have previously established, from a carbon star survey, that the Local Group dwarf irregular galaxy NGC 6822 is much larger than its central bright core.
متن کاملWater masers in the Local Group of galaxies
We compare the number of detected 22 GHz H2O masers in the Local Group galaxies M31, M33, NGC 6822, IC 10, IC 1613, DDO 187, GR8, NGC 185, and the Magellanic Clouds with the water maser population of the Milky Way. To accomplish this we searched for water maser emission in the two Local Group galaxies M33 and NGC 6822 using the Very Large Array (VLA) and incorporated results from previous studi...
متن کاملThe Star Formation History of NGC 6822
Images of five fields in the Local Group dwarf irregular galaxy NGC 6822 obtained with the Hubble Space Telescope in the F555W and F814W filters are presented. Three of the fields lie mostly within the central bar of NGC 6822 where most of the sites of current star formation are concentrated while two other fields sample more of the outer regions of the galaxy. Photometry for the stars in these...
متن کاملGalaxy NGC 6822 from Near - Infrared Photometry of Cepheid Variables
We have measured near-infrared magnitudes in the J and K bands for 56 Cepheid variables in the Local Group galaxy NGC 6822 with well-determined periods and optical light curves in the V and I bands. Using the template light curve approach of Soszyński, Gieren and Pietrzyński, accurate mean magnitudes were obtained from these data which allowed us to determine with unprecedented accuracy the dis...
متن کاملMagnetic Fields and Ionized Gas in the Local Group Irregular Galaxies IC 10 and NGC 6822
We performed a high-sensitivity search for galaxy-scale magnetic fields by radio polarimetry at 10.45 GHz and 4.85 GHz with the Effelsberg 100 m radio telescope, accompanied by Hα imaging, for the two Local Group irregular galaxies IC 10 and NGC 6822. Their star-forming bodies are small and rotate slowly. IC 10 is known to have a very high star-forming activity, resembling blue compact dwarfs, ...
